DIRECTED DRILLS FOR TELECOM CONNECTION AMSTERDAM

To improve the accessibility of the Amsterdam Zuidas and the northern part of the Randstad, the A10 Zuid between the junctions De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel were widened to 2 x 6 lanes, whereby general traffic and destinated traffic was separated. The junctions themselves were adapted as well as the Amsterdam Zuid Station. The required activities are all referred to as ZuidAsDok, a project of Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail and the municipality of Amsterdam.

Activities

Widening the motorway lanes and expanding the station will be possible by constructing the A10 Zuid in two tunnels near the center of Zuidas. The adaptation of the Amstel junction means that the very many existing telecom connections, which cross the Amstel via a controlled drill, south of the A10 motorway, cannot be maintained on site. The solution was found in manufacturing 3 directional drillings. A drill under the Amstel north of the Rijksweg A10 situated on the east of the Amstel (⌀ 450 mm with a length of 295 m) and a drill parallel to the south side of the A10 towards the police horse riding school (7 x ⌀ 250 mm and 2* x ⌀ 110 mm with a length of 615 m).
Special Circumstances
VLTT carried out the drilling as a drilling company. In consultation with all stakeholders, Rijkswaterstaat, the municipality of Amsterdam, ProRail, Waternet, Tennet, multiple telecom companies, Amstelglorie and Adinf BV, coordination has been reached by the method of implementation and the planning to be followed. The complicated drilling work was carried out to the satisfaction of all parties.
