HDD DRILLING IN ULFT – INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICITY CABLES

Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken has executed a number of HDD drilling works over an extensive trajectory in Gelderland, designed to improve the electricity network. Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) allows drilling work to take place from point A to point B with the least possible hindrance for existing infrastructures both above ground and underground. Horizontal directional drilling is therefore perfect for the installation of cables or pipelines under busy roads, water crossings or shopping streets, among other things.

Activities

In Ulft, close to the German border, the 50 tonne HDD rig operated by foreman driller Paul and his team installed 6 x Ø 110 mm electricity cables. The drilling works ran under farming land, a number of roads and cycle paths. The second drilling work executed today in this trajectory was 517 m long. The first drilling work which had already been executed was 555 m long, all drilling of this project was realised on behalf of A. Hak. The total drilling work for this project is expected to be completed somewhere towards the end of May 2024.
Special Circumstances
The soil in this area is a mixture of sand and gravel. Non-cohesive soil layers (such as sand and gravel) can tend to relatively quickly close up or collapse once the water pressure is lost. This can sometimes be problematic, but we appreciate a challenge at Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken :-)
